Abstract: |
Work on 20 test pits was monitored during a geotechnical investigation in advance of the refurbishment of the site. No archaeological deposits or cut features were recorded. Natural river terrace gravels were observed, surviving to between 13.16m OD and 13.83m OD. Comparisons with observations from archaeological sites in the immediate vicinity suggested that all archaeological deposits and features as well as up to 2.7m of natural deposits had been truncated by past developments, including the construction of the standing building.
