Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in response to a proposal for retail development. The site lay within the core of the Anglo-Saxon and medieval town, probably within the 10th century Edwardian burh. In consequence, a planning condition requiring archaeological trial trench evaluation of the site was imposed by Breckland District Council. Trial trench evaluation recorded a late Saxon feature containing copious quantities of butchered animal bone, a late Saxon/early medieval ditch/pit and undated redeposited soils. However, there was no clear evidence of medieval activity at the site. Recent services had caused some disturbance to archaeological remains in the western part of the investigation area. [Au(abr)] |
