Abstract: |
The archaeological desk-based assessment found that the footprints of both the proposed basement lowering and proposed side extension to The Gatehouse had a high potential to contain the possible remains of late medieval and/or early post-medieval buildings shown on a plan of c.1603. The proposed tennis court, located outside of the buildings shown on the 1603 plan would involove the removal of topsoil only and was therefore unlikely to have an impact on any archaeology. The area of the proposed development had the potential to contain prehistoric archaeology associated with the discovery of a prehistoric ditch c.50m to the south-east during an archaeological evaluation in 1996.
