Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken in advance of the proposed residential redevelopment of the site. The assessment demonstrated, on the basis of all available evidence, that the site had a low archaeological potential for all past periods of human activity due to its proximity to the Beverley Brook, which was formerly a highly unstable watercourse. Archaeological monitoring of a geotechnical investigation indicated that a sterile alluvial clay was present across the study site. The alluvial clay was in sharp contact with a thin brickearth overlying the terrace gravel. This indicated that the site had been subject to fluvial erosion and as a consequence in situ archaeological remains and in situ historic and palaeo landsurfaces were unlikely to be present. As a consequence of the site's low archaeological potential and past post depositional impacts it was considered unlikely that any development of the site would have any significant archaeological impact. On the basis of all the available information, the report did not recommend the implementation of any further archaeological mitigation measures. [Au(adp)] |
