Abstract: |
The magnetometer survey was carried out as part of a training exercise in conjunction with the Northmoor Trust. The survey revealed a considerable amount of new information relating to the interior of the fort. The most notable result was the detection of a previously unknown inner ditch circuit encircling the highest ground within the centre of the fort. Plentifulk eveidence of occupation was also detected, including a series of large rectangular positive anomalies of unusual form and appearance, as well as scattered pit-type anomalies. A further feature around the periphery of the monument was thought to represent soil build-up, or evidence of a second hitherto unrecognised enclosure circuit of disjointed form. [Au(abr)] |
