Abstract: |
<summary>An archaeological impact assessment was undertaken for a large area of proposed development on a site which included King's Cross and St Pancras railway stations. Palaeolithic, Roman and Saxon finds had been recorded in the vicinity, and six medieval sites were known on the western and eastern edges of the site. A smallpox hospital was built on the site itself in 1746, and eight houses which comprised the settlement of Brill existed in the 18th century. 19th century buildings, including a locomotive depot, were also recorded. It was concluded that an investigation of the remains of the latter buildings would be of interest, and that some evaluation work would be necessary to assess other archaeological remains. {italon}AIP{italoff}{spacea} |
