Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of trenches in advance of a sewer pipe, at a site which lay adjacent to the Scheduled Ancient Monument of St Thomas Priory. No archaeological features or artefacts were observed, although a peaty deposit containing partly decayed wood and vegetable matter was encountered. A section was drawn of a sandstone wall which lay 70m to the north-west of one of the trenches. The wall was likely to have been the original precinct wall of the medieval priory. [Au(abr)] |
