Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment of several sites proposed for a motorway service area identified that scatters of artefacts had been recorded within five areas. Evidence found in the vicinity of some of the sites included a substantial Roman settlement, cropmarks and prehistoric remains. Within a wider corridor surrounding the stretch of the motorway under investigation, over 350 archaeological sites and finds had been recorded. It was concluded that several areas within the corridor were of such archaeological sensitivity that they would form a material consideration during the planning process. [AIP] |
