Abstract: |
Archaeological deposits survived as 'islands' across the site between Victorian and later disturbances. The quantity and quality of medieval pottery indicated a production centre nearby, and the absence of a rubbish pit was surprising. A previous researcher, F.W.B. Charles, suggested that the surviving Old Crown was part of a larger medieval building arranged around a courtyard, evidence to prove or disprove this was not found. Additionally several phases of post-medieval activity were identified. [AIP] |
