Abstract: |
Observation of foundation trenches to the rear of no. 65 High Street revealed a layer of waterlogged silty clay which might have formed part of the marshy area used by the Romans to augment the town defences. No trace was found of Roman buildings or of the axial street through the defended area which might have been expected at this point.[AIP] |
