Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during topsoil stripping at a development site. It was believed that an Anglo-Saxon treaty, the Treaty of Dore, may have been signed on or close to the site, which represented one of the last remaining undeveloped areas close to the medieval core of the village of Dore. The results of the watching brief confirmed the information gathered from an earlier geophysical survey, indicating that this area of land had lain within open fields until modern times. Parts of the site had been landscaped, and drainage had been improved to create a garden and a tennis court. However, all of the features revealed by the topsoil stripping were of recent origin, and no material or features relating to medieval activity were found. [Au(adp)] |
