Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of two underpinning pits at a site which lay within the Saxon burh and medieval borough of Stafford, adjacent to the site of a medieval well. The upper layers observed within the pits were composed mainly of compacted bricks. Sandstone within one pit was presumed to derive from a structure which predated the existing largely 18th century building at the site. No artefacts were recovered, although a sandy archaeological deposit was observed in both trenches. [Au(abr)] |
