Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out on land adjacent to 'The Friary', Abbleby (a post-medieval structure) to satisfy a planning condition in advance of a housing development. The proposed development area was in the vicinity of the reputed site of a Carmelite Friary founded between 1281 and 1293. None of the four trenches excavated revealed evidence of archaeological features. Field drains were noted, and a few sherds of post-medieval pottery were recovered from the topsoil. No further archaeological work was considered necessary on the site. [Au(abr)] |
