Abstract: |
A geophysical survey was carried out along the 3.5km section of the Walkern Rising Main between White Hall Farm and Walkern. Magnetometry successfully located a number of positive curvilinear anomalies that were likely to have related to Bronze Age funerary monuments within the southern part of the survey corridor in Areas 2 and 3. Many of the survey areas contained positive and negative linear, area and discrete anomalies that had been difficult to classify due to the constraints of the corridor width and their enigmatic form. It was possible that some areas contained evidence for former land boundaries while others revealed anomalies that may have related to quarry or chalk pits. However, it was not possible to determine whether these features were archaeological in origin. [Au(abr)] |
