Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken during the construction of a dwelling and garage. In the immediate vicinity of the site was a Bronze Age barrow cemetery containing about 20 barrows with single barrows situated to the south and west. Lying to the south of the investigation area were the remains of the former priory of St Gilbert of Sempringham, a 12th century priory which was one of the poorest houses of the order. Features associated with the construction of the present Catley Cottages were found as well as a single medieval roof tile were revealed during the investigation. [AIP] |
