Abstract: |
<summary>Trial-trenching was undertaken to establish the line of Nico Ditch prior to development. The ditch is a linear earthwork, first mentioned in deeds of c1200. The excavation reveals that Nico Ditch survived as an earthwork until the 19th century, when it was culverted and the culvert buried. This culvert formed the back boundary to terraced housing which stood on the site until recently. This conclusion would agree with the depiction of the ditch on the Ordnance Survey first edition map of 1848. {italon}AIP{italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} 1404/1/5 |
