Abstract: |
The works, carried out in the historic core of the city, discovered two almost certainly prehistoric pits and a single Iron Age feature. The survival of these on such a disturbed site was though quite remarkable. Late Iron Age artefacts, one possibly related to salt production, were encountered. Other pottery and flint tools were also recovered. Roman material at the site formed the vast majority of the assemblage. Most of this came from post-medieval contexts, however, there was at least one post hole attributed to the Roman period. Later pottery was sparse. Medieval and post-medieval activity consisted of negative extraction features. [Au(adp)] |
