Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken which revealed Neolithic and post-medieval evidence. Alluvial clay that represented the flooding episodes of the various palaochannels was identified in trench 1. Overlying this was a layer of clay disturbed by post-medieval ploughing sealed. In trench 4, cut into the brickearth was a feature representing a tree throw, which was filled and sealed by alluvial flood deposits. Cut into the flood deposit was a N-S orientated terminating ditch of probable Bronze Age date, likely to have been a field boundary. Overlying this ditch was a deposit of alluvial clay representing further flooding episodes, which was covered by a layer of clay disturbed by post-medieval ploughing, sealed by a modern ground make-up deposit.
