Abstract: |
An assessment and rapid site inspection were undertaken on land to the west of Lancaster Road, Carnforth. Although 14 sites were known in the vicinity of the site from the SMR, the majority of the site itself had been quarried away, with a substantial quantity of recent infilling. Only the front part of the site appeared to have survived, around and to the north of the Lodge. There was considered to be the potential for prehistoric activity in this area, however, this was also the area where structures associated with the Lodge were thought to survive. It was recommended that a programme of trial trenching be undertaken to investigate the area, and that a basic survey of Carnforth Lodge be undertaken prior to its demolition. [Au(abr)] |
