Abstract: |
A magnetometer survey was carried out at several locations adjacent to the river in advance of proposed flood alleviation works. Numerous magnetic anomalies had been identified although many were caused by recent agricultural activity (ploughing and draining). In addition several anomalies were archaeological in origin. Three probable enclosures were identified of which two appeared to have been deliberately positioned adjacent to a former river course. There was possible evidence for occupational activity at the third enclosure. Other less coherent anomalies were also considered to have archaeological potential, although some might have been damaged through ploughing. [Au(adp)] |
