Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of a trench for a water pipe through a flood arch at Stoneleigh Bridge, a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The bridge was shown on estate plans of 1597 and 1749, and was widened in 1844. During the watching brief, no structural remains of the bridge were observed, although building rubble which may have represented debris from the 19th century widening was revealed. Post-medieval pottery was recovered. [Au(adp)] |
