Abstract: |
Archaeological recording and a watching brief was undertaken during alterations to the Bishop's Cloister or Lady Arbour to house the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library Display. The benefit of detailed recording of the historic fabric of the buildings around the cathedral was well shown by the exercise. The available knowledge concerning the Losinga Chapel, the oldest building within the cathedral and Palace complex, was greatly enhanced by the survey in the south cloistral area. The survey also provided a corpus of information about the cloister and its monuments which was a necessary addition to the cathedral inventory. [Au] |
