Abstract: |
The evaluation was undertaken in advance of proposed residential development. The site lay within an area of archaeological potential close to a number of known sites, mainly of prehistoric date. A walkover survey was carried out and six trial trenches were excavated. One of these (trench 6) was located to investigate a possible terrace earthwork. The earliest dateable archaeological remains identified included ditches and post holes containing Late Neolithic flints and pottery sherds. A number of undated features including pits and ditches were also identified. Later evidence included a post-medieval field boundary ditch and areas of modern disturbance. The possible terrace feature was identified as being caused by modern activity. [Au(abr)] |
