Abstract: |
Archaeological evaluations were carried out to the rear of 4 Market Square, Leighton Buzzard. A programme of documentary research and trial trenching was undertaken. Documentary evidence suggested that the development area was formerly sub-divided into three plots, all of which were occupied by structures from at least the seventeenth century onwards. Trial trenching uncovered a possible boundary ditch of late medieval / early post-medieval date. Successive episodes of demolition, levelling and reconstruction were identified in the south of the site which confirmed the activity suggested by the documentary research. [Au(abr)]- |
