Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken at areas along the route of a water pipeline, which had been identified by an earlier assessment as having archaeological potential. The location and density of features found at the northern end of the pipeline, where cropmarks had been recorded, partially corresponded with anomalies identified by a geophysical survey. Excavation of a number of sections across the features supported their original interpretation as ditches forming part of a brickwork pattern field system. Analogy with similar sites indicated an Iron Age or Roman date. No further sites were identified during monitoring elsewhere along the route. [Au(adp)] |
