Abstract: |
<summary>The existence of iron furnaces here has long been known - the discovery of a quantity of tap slag in 1990 rekindled interest. This discovery led to an earthwork survey in 1990/91, followed in 1992 by a magnetometer survey and the opening of two exploratory trenches. The investigation confirmed that early iron-smelting technological processes were being carried out at the head of the Castleshaw Valley. The need for further research is identified in the report. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
