Abstract: |
During the groundworks at Nicholls Hall, domestic post-medieval and residual medieval pottery was recovered. The pottery probably represented ploughsoil which may have been distributed across the site through the spreading of domestic waste. No traces of Anglo-Saxon activity outside the burh defences were discovered beneath the ploughsoil, and there was no evidence of stone foundations said to have been uncovered during the construction of the hall.
