Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during groundworks for an extension, at a site which lay within a Local Area of Archaeological Importance. Prehistoric flint tools had been found in the vicinity, and Roman features and artefacts had been recorded at a nearby site. The proposal site had been in agricultural use during the medieval period, but had later been developed as the Bellevue Estate, with a house and landscaped grounds. During the watching brief, a backfilled drain trench was noted and modern artefacts were observed, but no features or finds of archaeological significance were recorded. [AIP] |
