Abstract: |
Salvage recording was undertaken during the construction of a new public building at Pershore Youth Centre, on behalf of Hereford & Worcester County Council. The site lies on the flood plain of the River Avon, close to the west bank of the river and slightly to the\neast of the known boundary of the medieval and post-medieval town. The salvage recording revealed only late post-medieval archaeological deposits. These deposits possibly represented the raising and levelling of uneven ground in preparation for a hard surface. Finds of 18th to 19th century pottery, brick, tile and glass were recovered. The natural alluvial deposits were of more interest and gave an indication of their potential for providing useful information on changes to the local landscape which may have occurred as long ago as the prehistoric period.[AIP] |
