Abstract: |
A survey was undertaken to record the current condition of the henge at Arbor Low (a Guardianship Monument). Erosion was identified as being isolated to a few parts of the monument, with the worn and eroding patches largely concentrated along the crest of the bank of the henge, on the barrow which overlies the bank to the south-east, isolated areas within the ditch lying opposite footpaths, a small number of patches within the enclosed area at the southern end of the northern ditch-causeway and adjacent to particular limestone slabs, and around the location of an information board at the outer foot of the henge-bank to the western side of the northern entrance. Modern and recent damage included two bonfire pits and an area of turf removed to expose the base of circle-stone XXXVIII. [AIP] |
