Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment for a proposed residential development concluded that the site lay within an area of considerable archaeological interest, particularly in the Roman period. In addition, the development area was identified as the site of the Union Iron Foundry, a post-medieval industrial site. There was no evidence for prehistoric or Anglo-Saxon/medieval activity on the site, which lay outside the historic medieval core of Derby and was likely to have been given over to agriculture. The proposed development area was viewed as having a high archaeological potential for Roman and post-medieval remains, and lower potential for remains from other periods. [Au(adp)] |
