Abstract: |
An intensive survey of the World War Two airfield at Ridgewell comprised a written history of the site, and an inventory of the remaining buildings, including a photographic record. A threat had arisen to the site through a proposed change of ownership which may have led to demolition and clearance for agriculture. As such, a survey report was produced, based on a rapid photographic assessment carried out in February 1996 as part of the 'Military Airfields in Essex during World War Two' thematic assessment. The report was partly in response to concern from Braintree District Council over the fate of the site and the possibility of affording statutory protection through Listing. [Au(adp)] |
