Abstract: |
A geophysical (fluxgate gradiometer) survey covering approximately 5.5 hectares was carried out at the site of a proposed housing development at Poole Hospital, Nunthorpe. A large part of the proposed development area was not amenable for magnetic survey due to the presence of trees, dense vegetation, standing water and modern ferrous material. Linear anomalies indicitive of modern service pipes, drains and ridge and furrow ploughing were identified across all parts of the site. Several positive linear anomalies of unknown origin were also present. There are numerous area of magnetic enhancement that could be caused by archaeological features, although a non-archaeological origin is considered the cause for the majority of these anomalies.
