Abstract: |
The cultural heritage desk-based assessment revealed that the site's potential for the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic periods was low, while the potential for the Neolithic period was moderate to good. The archaeological potential for the Bronze Age was considered to be good. Although there was evidence of activity along this part of the River Thames during the Iron Age and Roman period, the archaeological potential of the site was considered to be low although evidence of agricultural activity and land division were possible. Anglo-Saxon and early medieval potential for the site was considered to be low due to the fact that the site was subject to seasonal flooding and was meadow land and woodland during these time periods. The archaeological potential of the site for the post-medieval period was considered good with evidence of the Tudor deer park pale, along with evidence of landscaping from the Tudor and later post-medieval period likely to be present.
