Abstract: |
<summary>Archaeological observation of the construction of a combined daycare centre and nursing home at Oldbury Grange, Hartshill - adjacent to the Iron Age hillfort known as Oldbury Camp (WA255 and Scheduled Ancient Monument, Warwickshire No 37) - was conducted by staff of the Warwickshire Museum. Construction of the foundations required the removal of a large part of the hillside which could have been utilised as part of the rampart defences of the hillfort. However, the terrace on which the Grange sits was found to have been constructed in the 19th century and no sign of prehistoric activity was identified. Neither was any trace found of the medieval cell of Benedictine nuns which documentary sources indicate may once have existed in this area (WA256). {italon}?Au/?Au(abr)/?Au(adp){italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} WA5749 |
