Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out and consisted of six trenches. All trenches revealed medieval deposits, which were deposited or redeposited after the demolition of the hospital, St. James. Trenches one, two and five revealed fragments of a medieval cobbled surface, whilst trench six exposed a stretched of cobble road of possibly medieval date. Finally in trenches three and four, short stretches of robber trenches for major walls aligned north-east/south-west which indicated the site of a major medieval structure, possibly the infirmary hall of the hospital. A late medieval hearth was partially exposed in trench 3. [Au(adp)] |
