Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out in response to proposals to redevelop the Lloyds bank in South Street into a private dwelling. It was thought that the street followed the outside face of the wall but this was the first time it had been proved by excavation. It was thought that once the defences fell into disuse late medieval encroachment onto the rampart took place, eventually leading to the removal of the rampart and wall when houses were built on to the South Street frontage.
