Abstract:
An aerial photographic assessment was commissioned by The University of Manchester Archaeological Unit. The assessment provided aerial photographic interpretation of archaeological features. Four areas of archaeological, or possible archaeological, interest were identified from the available aerial photographic sources. These areas contained: a)Mounds, which may have been the remains of Bronze Age burial sites, b)buried ditches, pits and curvilinear enclosures indicative of possible former fields and definite former settlement and possible burial areas and a large rectilinear ditched enclosure, c) linear ditches, an ovoid enclosure and possible penannular curvilinear enclosure, d) system of parallel linear and sinuous ditches which may be the remains of a former boundary or access way. Also long sinuous single ditches, shorter lengths of ditch, pits and a sub-circular enclosure. There were also areas of mottled soil and possible pits which were probably indicative of open settlement. A rectilinear enclosure and associated ditch lay to the south-west of the area. [Au(adp)]
