Abstract: |
A desktop assessment was undertaken to determine the archaeological setting of the Conservation Area. Several archaeological sites and findspots were located within and in the vicinity of the Conservation Area. Gedney Dawsmere was located in an area of 17th century land reclamation from the sea. The sea bank that formed the outer limit of this reclamation ran through the village and survived as an extent earthwork south of the main road. The village was built in 1855 with the church and vicarage built later, though a building was mentioned in the accompanying schedules of early plans. [Au] |
