Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment of the site of a power station found that a small number of Romano-British and medieval findspots had been recorded there, and that the northern limit of medieval riverside meadows fell within the site boundary. Within a broader area around the site, isolated medieval finds and structures, Romano-British artefacts and concentrations of Palaeolithic and Iron Age finds had been recorded. It was concluded that any archaeological deposits present were likely to have been significantly affected by the power station and its infrastructure. An area to the south of Chelsea Creek had not been subject to intensive post-medieval development, and was identified as having a higher archaeological potential than other parts of the site.
