Abstract: |
Scanning found the majority of the application area to be magnetically quiet; detailed survey samples supported these findings and confirmed the absence of magnetically detectable archaeological remains in many of the fields. Detailed surveying determined the area of high ground located immediately to the southwest of the current buildings may be associated with an earlier phase of settlement on the site. To the north-west potential charcoal burning was identified and to the east of this a former field system was visible. A field to the south of Cutlers Farm contained strong magnetic responses. They were small-scale industrial in strength and could have been of archaeological interest. To the southeast of Newlands Farm a sub-circular enclosure was noted. Elsewhere field drains, pipes and other anomalies caused by modern practices were evident. [Au(abr)] |
