Abstract: |
The archaeological evaluation revealed occasional sherds of medieval pottery in the plough soil. Two linear features were identified, which may have formed a property boundary. In addition, three post-medieval cess pits dated to the 17th and 18th centuries were also recorded and these probably also related to a building. The central part of the evaluation area showed that severe truncation had removed much of the archaeological deposits. The site had some potential for the recovery of information related to medieval plough activity and 17th to 18th century domestic development. The actual structures associated with the post-medieval developments were probably located on the frontage to Church Street and Bridge Street, where the present buildings would probably have disturbed the evidence.
