Abstract: |
<summary>Human remains were unearthed during development and the Department of Urban Archaeology was called in. It seems that excavations had unearthed burials from the 13th century Dominican friary; these were present within post-medieval ground disturbance and there was evidence of a cellar in whose walls carved medieval stone was also found. The site had very high archaeological potential, being one of the few un-basemented areas of Blackfriars. It was stated that no construction work should be permitted there without archaeological coverage and a burial licence, and that numbers 79 and 81 Carter Lane were historic buildings that ought to be Listed. {italon}AIP{italoff}{spacea}{italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} CAE90 (Museum of London Site Code) |
