Abstract: |
Excavations at the church prior to the installation of a new drainage scheme and oil heating system showed that although St. Leonard's was historically a medieval structure, it had been extensively rebuilt in the 17th century, and certainly in the 1820s and 1880s. It was inferred that the church had in fact been demolished during one of these periods and rebuilt. Few human remains were recovered, comprising only one articulated burial in a substantial lidded sarcophagus, pointing to extensive truncation and re-levelling across the site. [Au(adp)] |
