Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during topsoil clearance and the excavation of foundation trenches at the site of a health clinic, which lay near a medieval parish church. A previous excavation in the area had revealed evidence of 11th-14th century occupation, although an evaluation immediately to the west of the site had not recorded archaeological remains. During the watching brief, several medieval pits and a possible post hole were observed, and pottery with a provisional 10th-11th century date was recovered. Animal bones, a piece of slag and a lump of iron ore were also found. [AIP] |
