Abstract: |
The site lay partly within the Borough's UDP A4 which represented the Roman 'London-Brighton Way' which was believed to lie beneath the present Brixton Road immediately to the west of the site. There was no evidence for the development of the site before the later 18th century. From the early 19th century the site was occupied by a number of residential houses, and by the end of the 19th century was mainly occupied by business. The report concluded that there was moderate potential for archaeological remains on the site dating to the Roman period. The main emphasis was on the Roman road and any associated roadside features, such as ditches. [Au] |
