Abstract: |
Observations maintained during groundwork occasioned by construction of a new garage and refurbishment of its forecourt and vehicular access at King's Old Rectory in the village of Broad Chalk in Wiltshire revealed a truncated, but essentially natural, soil sequence extending across the whole of the affected area. Archaeological features were restricted to tree-planting holes of 18th century or later date. The report concluded that medieval settlement associated with the rectory was probably situated west of the rectory and that, as a result, the work has not had a detrimental affect on archaeological remains.
