Abstract: |
The evaluation was undertaken on the site of derelict workshops located between Hudson House and the City walls. There had been truncation of the archaeological sequence over much of the site as a result of the activities of the Victorian Railway Engineers. However, in the case of three of the trenches it was possible to determine the level of surviving medieval deposits. In the case of one of the trenches all of the material recovered to the depth of excavation was modern in date. On the basis of this evaluation it was clear that Roman and later deposits, if they existed, were likely to be present over much of the site, sealed by medieval and later deposition. [Au(adp)] |
