Abstract: |
The proposed development site lay within an area rich in human activity since the prehistoric period. There were a remarkable number of defensive sites of medieval and later date in the vicinity. The old depot was part of what appeared to be a WWII marine oil storage facility and most of the structures were present in 1946. The only other features identified within the depot area were a trackway dating to at least 1842 and the adjacent field boundary. The location of the kiln suggested by the field name 'Kiln Park' was not known. Owing to the terracing which had taken place to accommodate the present buildings, the potential for the survival of archaeological features was unknown. [Au(adp)] |
