Abstract: |
An evaluation was undertaken on farmland located along the route of the proposed A350 Lord'sHill to Longbridge Deverill road improvement. Two areas of archaeological potential were identified: one area at the northern end of the proposed route comprised significant quantities of medieval pottery and probable ditches identified during the geophysical survey, and was thought to represent an extension of the extent of the medieval settlement of Longbridge Deverill; the second area was located towards the southern end of the proposed route and comprised a possible ring-ditch identified during geophysical survey and high levels of worked flint recovered from test-pits. Due to the proximity of two bowl barrows and a bell barrow to the second area, Bronze Age activity was postulated. [Au(adp)] |
